This might be a silly question but why blend cotton and polyester instead of being cotton or polyester?

I like polyester shirts like the Nike Legend of Adidas' Climacool shirts and shirts like that, but they're obviously a different feel than pure cotton.

What benefit does cotton/polyester mixes have? To me, I wash my polyester shirts, pants, and boxers separately and carefully because I can't use fabric softener and usually air dry them to avoid shrinking. Having a blend of the two just means I treat them like polyester anyway.

Polyester retains a lot of heat. I don't see a benefit for the consumer. It's cheaper for the manufacturer to substitute polyester for cotton.

I mostly buy cotton/poly/elastane/whatever blend shirts. Strongly dislike how 100% poly feels, all cotton retains too much sweat. Do have a few all cotton shirts for cooler days.

The blends are a good compromise. I line dry everything never use fabric softener.
