Free AT&T Internet Upgrade for Current Subscribers - YMMV

Just a heads up

I am currently an AT&T U-verse television and Internet subscriber. I live in a new suburban community with relatively new fiber laid through out the city located in Southern California.

Every year I have to play the call and cancel game to get the newest promotion plan. Yesterday I called up and complained of internet throttling speeds and mentioned I had gotten gigapower / giganet mailers for my neighborhood.

The AT&T representative said my current plan of 50Mb speed could be upgraded to 100Mb AT THE SAME PRICE for a lifetime promotion. Uh, double my speed at the same price, sign me up.

Technician came out today, confirmed I had compatible fiber to the house and up to date hardware and it was a simple "flip the switch" command request put in by the technician between my Residential Gateway Modem and the AT&T servers and boom - internet is now 100Mb.

Technician told me that as an employee he was not even told about the current promotional pricing. That he was out on location with so many clients upgrading that he had to hear it from his customer installs to learn of it and called it in for his own house/himself. He said its only been going on for a couple months and did not know when it would end.

That being said, its 9/30 so hopefully it continues on into October. Call your AT&T service rep and request / threaten cancellation for internet and see what you can get.

You're right sir - guess I should retitle this thread, true gigabit was available at higher cost.

100mb is not a gigabit." "Gigapower" and gigabit are not the same. "Gigapower" is a marketing brand of various speeds.
Aside from the confusing terms, it seems like you got a good deal. Were you required to extend your contact term?

I was paying $60 for 24mbit. I got them to give me 50 mbit for less than $30, u300 4 receivers for $125+tax. Comcast and att only offer 50mbit here.

1GB/sec = Gigabit. What is the price you are currently paying for 1000MB/1GB internet speeds?

1 year commitment, cancellation fee pro-rates down every month - that said, I have no intentions of cancelling.

I'm getting 100MB, I misspoke earlier. I believe AT&T rep said 1000MB was $40 or $30 more ontop of the $50. But I wasn't interested.

Just looked it up to confirm, $50 a month for AT&T 100MB internet with 2 discounts attached:
1) for the lifelong promotion with 1 yr commit, and 2) for having combined U-verse and Internet billing.
It reads as follows on my account:

AT&T Internet 100
Total monthly Internet cost $50.00*
You have 2 My discounts
Internet Bundle Price w/1 yr term, $180 ETF
Started on Sep 30, 2017
U-verse TV and Internet Unlimited Usage Plan

Not sure if I'm alone in this but I honestly think that was more of a save tactic on their part, not a promotion. I know Comcast/Xfinity in my area were constantly rolling out faster speeds and top tier subscribers were being given them for free. I think the regular speed is up to 300-350mbits now and you didn't have to call/resign to get it. Its def good that they gave it to you for free especially since a max of 50mbits is kinda lacking in 2017 especially with all the streaming devices.

I was paying $50 - so same price, they just doubled my speed. Ok that's enough from me - tuning out. Was just hoping to help a few people if they had not addressed their AT&T internet in a couple years.

Not true! 1GB/s = 8Gigabits
1 Gigabit = 125MB/s
1 byte = 8 bits
