hasn't been that long, 12/16 a clip deal for same price and size was front page with many thumbs up

some people still need these, do you really want to risk dropping iphone x or s8 on treadmill, concrete, or squat rack?

I know some people like to lug around a phone to listen to music but these are nice to clip on to your shirt when you're working out. I use one of these on a daily basis.

Agreed. Wish it had bluetooth to use as a traveling companion with my many bluetooth speakers.

Yeah, I agree...I'm kind of surprised Sansa hasn't upgraded these to include bluetooth.

After my first response, I saw that they actually do have a version with bluetooth now.

Good point. I wish there was some technology that would allow me to leave my phone in the corner with my other gear, while I just wear a pair of headphones that connect wirelessly to it. Even better, maybe some controls on those headphones to play/pause/stop/skip tracks/volume etc.?

Maybe I could even find a protective shield for my phone? Something that will protect it if I ever drop it, like the helmets some sportspeople wear to stop their heads splitting open, but in this case to keep my phone from splitting open and spilling its brains everywhere.

There may even be money in some of these ideas! I know - I'm a dreamer... but maybe some day you'll join us, and the world will live as nuns. (That is how the song goes, right? I assume it is based upon the belief that nuns are really good people, and of course once you're a nun it's a really tough habit to break.)

Do I need to add a /s to this post?

Try last year. Albeit that was for the monochrome display model for $25 or the 4GB version of this one as a refurb, so for $5 more you can get this model new with a color screen and better battery life.

While consumer trends have indeed shifted to people using their phones on a daily basis to listen to music, Apple's withdrawal from the compact MP3 player market has left a void for people looking for small and cheap MP3 players with an FM tuner. People are still looking for them since they still serve a purpose for workouts, other types of activities like biking, or any time where you can't or don't want to have a phone in your pocket or strapped to your arm out of fear of breaking it or just the annoyance of having a 5" display phone on your arm.

There are few options now for people who want something small to listen to music during a workout without having a phone on your arm. They are:

- $299 Apple Watch or comparable $200+ Android Wear 2.0 watch. Limited to a couple of GB of music. Then another $10 for m-pow bluetooth earbuds, or $20 for Anker, or $60 for Plantronics from Costco, some other models ~ $100, or $160 for Apple AirPods
- Existing iPod shuffle, nano, etc. Once it breaks or no longer holds a charge, you're done or you can try and find a used one on eBay. iFixit has deemed them essentially not repairable unlike the older iPods
- A Sandisk Clip Jam,Sport, etc like one of these for $30. drop in whatever sized MicroSD card that you want if you need more space. 1 year warranty extended to 3 years with Citi (or 2 if you have Discover, Chase, etc)
- An AGPtEK mp3 player from Amazon for around the same price as the Sandisk, with essentially no warranty from AGPtEK. Their contact email is a Hotmail email account. When my A26 broke after 8 months despite it having a 1 year warranty, AGPtEK didn't respond to my emails so I filed a charge back with my credit card. When I left negative feedback, I got a reply to my comment saying to contact them at the same Hotmail email address lol. Reading other reviews I see others have had the same problem

I already have a Sandisk jam that I use for working out, but I bought one of these as a spare. I paid $26.99 for the Jam so $30 gets me the color screen model with extra battery life is a no brainer to me. I have no need for bluetooth. As a FYI, just because there are smart watches now that play music and we can stream music on our phones - don't expect portable MP3 players to be $15. The largest competitor pulled out of the portable MP3 player market including their cheapest model the $49 iPod Shuffle, thus Sandisk and others have no incentive to lower prices more than where they're at.

So to answer your question why I thought this was a slick deal? Because the price has never been this low for the 8GB version of this model, in new condition with full warranty, and previous deals for $5 less for refurb versions with less memory or the model with the monochrome screen were Popular Deals

I still have an old 1GB Sandisk MP3 player that takes a AAA battery. These are perfect for audio books on long flights. May get a new one for the next overseas trip.

i have a cheap alcatel c1 that is one of the smallest android phones out there, i've tried it and at least it has an FM tuner. it will require an arm band like any other non-clip player and weighs almost 4X with the battery compared to what the sandisk weighs. also battery life is meh. it was doable though and i had no issues loading my collection on there since it uses a microSD card.

the sandisk is rated for 25 hrs, from what i've read expect pretty darn close to that. my Clip Jam, lasts a pretty damn long time. haven't done a test yet but i rarely charge it
the sandisk has an integrated clip, and weighs less than 1 oz

i haven't used the Clip Sport since i just bought it, but the Clip Jam has been awesome. just clip it to my shirt and go.

just did a quick search but it looks like Rockbox is not available (or even in development) for the Clip Sport

not a bad idea (especially if you need more than just music playback) but it will need to be charged more often, have inferior sound quality (probably not noticeable by most people) and will weigh more

These are great for students for recording class lectures or important meetings.
Like to keep my clip on hand.
