Agreed. Not a big difference between the 6700HQ and 7700HQ, but the 7th gen can stream Netflix in 4K. Slightly better battery performance too.

Is the promo code "10/1" ? It doesn't work for me.

True. It's a great deal. Paid $1200 back in November. Secondly, they have i7 7700hq which is usually on sale around $1400

How do you feel about the screen? Reviews say that the panel has very bad contrast ratio... making it near impossible to distinguish shapes in dungeon crawling games.

Absolutely horrible reviews on Amazon (related to HDD mostly, which can be remedied by replacing it)

Average deal. 1060 is maxed out on 1080P, so there is no upside potential for this laptop. There is no SSD and no PCI-E M.2 slot for fast boot drive. Older generation Intel 6700 CPU. Underpowered PSU @ 180Wt.
Finally, rebate is involved, which makes this is real hassle.
The deal on ASUS ROG with 7700/16GB RAM/NVIDIA 1070/256GB PCI-E M.2/G-Sync IPS display for only $100 more with no rebate and no tax to deal with, was much better.

I'd rather they include a shitty hdd and give a discount than a shitty SSD and charge more.

Maybe on other streaming services, but not Netflix.

I am typing from the Best buy GS63VR-001 unit and find it decent enough for what I am doing. Just for fun I did a benchmark on Gears of War 4 with most settings on Ultra and still averaged 58FPS with the entire game installed on the stock HDD. Don't know if this helps anyone on the fence, but figured I'd give some data.
**Also the questions from Amazon state that the -422 model DOES have an empty m.2 slot.

Have this model mine came with 256GB m2 SSD and 1TB 5400 HDD. Replaced the spinner with 1TB SSD and lowered the voltage to keep it cooler and near silent love this laptop
