This month's promotion is like the September promotion, except that everyone who publishes a skill can get a t-shirt, instead of a pair of socks. The requirements for getting the free Echo Dot look the same: get 100 unique users within 30 days.

From Develop Skills in Multiple Languages [amazon.com]:

"Tip: Supporting multiple languages makes your skill available to more users. Consider providing support for as many languages as you can to increase your user base. For example, if you support English (US), consider adding support for the other English locales, such as English (UK) and English (India)."

A couple of days ago, I added U.K. and Indian English to the skills I made in September and October (the day after my October skill was published). My September skill had a total of 60 users in just over two weeks. In two days, I added another 52 users. For some reason, there was even a jump in the number of U.S. English users. My October skill, which has only been out for three days, already has 33 users, the vast majority being U.K. English users, and an equal number of U.S. English and Indian English users, and I don't really know why. My best guess is that it's because there are much fewer U.K. English skills to choose from, and probably far fewer Indian English skills (You can't see them on amazon.in.) to choose from.

Anyway, Amazon's page in the link at the top explains how to support additional languages. I didn't make any changes to the skill logic for either of my skills (they use the Fact Skill and Trivia Skill templates), other than to make them use the exact same content for U.K. English and Indian English as they already do for U.S. English. (My skills don't happen to use any words that are spelled differently, like color / colour, which would probably be visible on an Echo Show.) When configuring the skills on the dashboard, I just copied over the same name, invocation name, intent schema, sample utterances, short and long descriptions, example phrases and keywords, and used the same icons. I followed the recommendation to have the lambda function on the Amazon's AWS service in Ireland for U.K. and Indian users, but that just involved uploading and entering the same things as on Amazon's AWS in Northern Virginia.

You can change the language of a device in the Alexa app, and then it can use skills for that language (only). I used this to change one of my Echo Dots to use U.K. English so I could be sure that version of my skill actually worked. Indian English is only available by invitation (or something like that), so I couldn't test it myself, but everything passed Amazon's certification.

If your skill could be of interest to U.K. or Indian users, you should definitely consider adding support for U.K. English and/or Indian English to it (and if you know German, consider adding that, though it'll obviously take more work.)

Some time ago, I got an email saying that I qualified for the T-shirt. I also noticed that they updated the form later in October to ask if you wanted a men's or women's T-shirt, and what size. I haven't heard back about the Echo Dot yet, though I did get the 100 users.

I just received the Echo Dot, a white one this time. All the others they sent me have been black. There was also the same developer skin that I received a few days ago for the September promotion. The October promotion didn't mention the developer skin, nor have any of the subsequent promotions.

A few days ago, I found an email from nearly a month ago that I had overlooked, with a link to give the T-shirt size that I wanted, and also to choose a men's or women's T-shirt. I followed the link and made my choices, and it said that I should be getting the T-shirt soon.
