He's correct, RAM is soldered to the mainboard. Only the SSD is upgradable.

Please read the customer reviews or refer back to owners from the previous thread. Professional reviews would also refute that claim. 4GB is fine for typical use scenarios. It's a large exaggeration to state a few tabs and a mail client will consume 4GB RAM, thereby significantly slowing the system down.

On another note, I've posted a dozen or so Chromebook threads and complaints commonly pop up that Chromebooks should be avoided for Windows laptops with similar specs and prices. The prices between the two are rarely similar, but now here's a deal where they're roughly the same and yet the complaints continue. Can't win around here...

the lower price point is tempting, but looking back the newer model of the 710 with 8GB memory and latest m5 (renamed core i5 yada-yada etc) was just $120 more after student coupon. now that $120 is an extra 40% more than the price for this deal, but that $120 goes a long way since the memory in both models is soldered on. plus, the newer m5 is absolutely awesome. battery life is phenomenal too

i have the upgraded version of the 710 and the shift key placement was a PITA. i downloaded a keyswapper program and fixed the placement issue

I really hope you're not giving computer lesson when "Just opening outlook alone eats up 4GB ram."

4 GB is kinda limited and it's not up gradable. Just opening outlook alone or having 4-5 Chrome tabs open will eat up that 4 GB. I would had pay $350 for a 8 GB version.
Hi max1001,where do we see that the RAM is not up gradable, do you think this won't work for any kind of analytics?

If only we could go back to the 90s when Microsoft invented memory swapping and you had far more virtual memory than physical memory.

You're doing something wrong, I have both firefox and chrome open with over 10+ tabs constantly refreshing for monitors and it never approaches 4 GB ram.

Where do you see that it's only $120 more? It's $699...
