Been looking for a color laser duplex scan & print printer at a decent price... but I don't think I can pass this one up for the inkjet.

Fry's has the following on sale w/ promo codes w/ free shipping.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 for $69 all week
Ad: http://images.frys.com/art/email/...omo_code%%

HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 for $189 Monday 10/2 only
Ad: http://images.frys.com/art/email/...eb.html?fb

Big difference between the two looks to be mechanical duplex (scans, then sucks it back in to scan the back) versus dual-side (single pass) duplex scanning.

Here's a good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx9Jy-fIDWE

Snagged the 8740.

Single pass is the way to go and the unit is larger as far as I know.
Dual 250 trays, legal size flatbed scanner, etc. Weighs 40#
But they are both bargains.

I'm surprised that people aren't all over these.. all the other places have it at the regular sale price.

You can get the 8720 on Amazon for 165, is the 8740 worth the upgrade for home use? Maybe I should just snag an 8710 for that cheap a price?

Me too as the $69 was an incredible price.

All printers have issues. I have read all the reviews and not a single brand is perfect. OKI use to be perfect as well as IBM/Lexmark but some folks complain about features. Even Canon has complaints as well as Epson and Dell.
It is pretty much MIC printers with the luck of the draw on a fully functional one out of the box. The model 40 is much bigger than I thought and I will have an issue with desktop space. I will have to get rid of my external monitor. ARGH!

But things like legal one pass two sided scanning and printing are a necessity if you print out any legal documents. Should have bought the color laser Canon last week that was on sale for $274. If it doesn't jam I will be happy.

Unfortunately I have no local store to take it back if it is DOA.

My wife is going to kill me.

8710 is a low bet in Vegaslaugh out loud. You won't get the two sided one pass scan unless you get the 40 or maybe the 30 TBD. That's if you need it.

I just need it for basic printing and that's pretty much it. That's why I think the 8710 is the way to go for me.

So I go to pick up my order and it's the typical BS Fry's open box only business. I ended up getting the 8740 price matched without hassle at Staples. The box is almost twice as big as the 8710... I concur that this one will be a PITA to return. lol

The 8710 still does automatic duplex (just slower because of the automatic flipping process) & duplex print. You can't get anything for this price that can do auto duplex scan.

Do the canons have easy scan-to-email? The B&W multifunction that I bought last year doesn't have scan-to-email and has the suckiest scanning interface. Which model was the one on sale?

8710 has been $50 with a Fry's $30 gift card the previous 4 or 5 months. 8720 has been $70 with a Fry's $50 gift card. Could be that a lot of people interested in the officejets have already gotten it back then.

Canon prices are not great right now.

I cancelled my order as I would have to get rid of my external monitor. Just very large. If I go that big I want a color laser that does it all.

Was on sale for $274 but no more.

Was surprised Fry's cancel button worked.

Just checked my email as they cancelled it earlier due to out of stock.

That was close.LMAO

Another item I found out most cheap printers will not do is print duplex legal or flat bed legal. The scan function for the 8710 is too primitive for mass large scale two sided scanning. I decided to take my files to the library and use their AD 2000 as I have 70# of documents that need PDFed.

Those of you that are experts, is there any way to have two Wi-Fi devices running at the same time (laptop and printer and connected)? Seems I remember you have to disconnect from the internet to print over Wi-Fi. BT might be more practical or is there a way to use your LAN cable in another room and still be on the internet?
Been using USB cables for years as it works every time I need it.

Might wait for that sale just to have a color around for business cards. BF is coming soon.
