rearrange photos in windows 10?

2,893 305 October 2, 2017 at 07:38 AM
Can someone please tell me how I can drag and drop photos in a windows 10 file explorer window to put them in any order I wish? When I try to do this, the photo won't move. I need to arrange them based on aspects in the photo. Not data, time, name etc. I'm dealing with hundreds of photos. Renaming them won't work because I may need to move just a few photos, which would throw off all the numbers of the photos after.

I don't think this is possible in an explorer window. Explorer always arranges by name, date, size, etc. It's not like a desktop.

Aspects of the images in the photos. If I want to group all photos of faces out of 300 photos. Or arrange based on certain rooms of a homes interior if they were taken out of a order. It's pretty ridiculous that in 2017 u can't drag and drop photos in a folder like u can on a desktop of how u can move app icons around on a phone screen. Right now I have to select with right click + control key to select all the photos with the aspects I need and move to a separate folder just for that particular photo aspect. But even then, I can't rearrange them based on which photo shows up first with out going through and numbering them. So then I've got pad and paper involved to keep up with the numbers, which will almost always change because I will find photo later that needs to move , so now I have to renumber them all. It's very frustrating. These r private photos that can't b put on any public/offsite program.

Yep - OP, to do what you're asking you need something like Adobe Bridge

After ordering a deal immediately delete your deal alert. You got your item; you don't want it shipped with a side of remorse.

This isn't a windows thing because what you are trying to do is pretty specialized. Windows has to know what order to put files in, all OS do this. There is specific software to handle stuff like this especially if your in a production environment. Lightroom has folders you can do this in, or you could use Adobe Bridge. What are you using to edit today? I would revisit your workflow entirely. With the right software and changing some processes you can make this a lot easier on yourself.
