Probably a reason these are on clearance. What kind of enterprise drive only has a 1 year warranty, lol! Plus it's a Toshiba... Do some research on the quality of their drives compared to others. Edit: see my post below

It's too bad all the NoS Hitachi 2TB seem to be gone now. Those were a great deal at $45 with the same warranty as this drive. I just had my last WD Green 2TB fail (that's 4 dead; every single one I ever bought; terrible drives) and am looking for a replacement.

Where do you see 1yr warranty? Toshiba says 5yrs (not that warranties on drives really mean anything since you can't get the data aback from a dead drive). 1.2 million hours MTTF = 136 yrs of 100% duty cycle usage

Also, unclear how much stock I put in these reviews, but the testing seems reasonably comprehensive

Yes, it is an older drive and undoubtedly there are better drives out there now (the review is from 2013), but there didn't seem to be any overwhelming negatives to the drive at that time

Yeah, sorry. I believe the 1 year warranty is for new old stock just like any drive so I guess originally they were 5 years. I don't know about these from Fry's.

For failure rates I usually look at the Backblaze statistics. They don't have many Toshiba drives so that probably skews the numbers. Anecdotally, of the handful of Toshiba drives I've owned (all in pre-built machines) every single one failed in less than 6 months and when the manufacturers of the machines replaced them, none sent another Toshiba. Again not a large sample set but still the worst drives I've personally owned.

So I guess what I'm saying is I don't know. I might try one of these if Fry's sends me a code.

If you RAID it, or run some sort RAID-like backup, you can. Under warranty you ship the drive out for $6, and you're up and running again.

"Clearance Item: Limited to In-Stock Items"

Fry's is bad enough about availability even when they don't include that disclaimer. A good price but I'm not putting much stock in this offer.

ETA:

As predicted....

"Ship This Order
Not Available"

NewEgg has a different 2TB model for $56.99

I have 4 Toshiba drives, which have been in use for up to 5 years. No failures.

Consult the previous thread about this deal:

https://slickdeals.net/f/10565568-toshiba-2-tb-7200-rpm-enterprise-sata-600-hd-mg03aca200-oem-for-49-frys-com-w-promo-code?v=1&src=SiteSearch

You will find these are "pulls" branded as HP drives with only a 6 month warranty. We all need to learn to do searches to not repost deals that are actually deceptive "tricks" like this. I got fooled the first time too.

Got this the last time fry's ran the deal. Still had the rack bracket on it. Probably not refurbished but "used" but I'm using it in a non-critical nas setup so we'll see how long it holds up. So far, so good...

Yes, all users should read the other thread. Your receipt will show 6 month warranty, Toshiba will show NO warranty from them. It will obviously be a clean pull with bracket still on it. It will show prior usage when using GSmartControl to view SMART test logs.

I also just went through an eBay return of 2 x 3 TB HGST enterprise drives listed as brand new when in fact they showed SMART tests at over 20,000 hours in GSmartControl. The hour counters and other SMART data (total blocks read/written) had all been reset, but SMART logs remain. Going by the sales & feedback of the seller, they are fooling almost all their customers.

I should also mention, if you want a clean pull refurbished drive (which is what Fry's is selling), you can get 3 TB HGST enterprise drives with 10k to 20k hours on eBay for the same price ($49-53 free ship).
