I can't give "rep" to anyone?

9 10 October 2, 2017 at 09:27 PM
Can anyone answer why when I try to give someone "rep" I get the message "Bad Request 400 Error Message" or something similar, and no rep is given out? is it because I'm a newbie with only 10 "rep" points myself? Or is there something else going on that I should try to correct? if anyone has any input I would love to hear it. Thank you in advance.

Hello!

this is from our FAQ's section:

Reputation Points
Reputation points are a measure of good posts in the deal and tech support forums. Some users wanted some way to distinguish between great deal hunters and people who post a lot in the lounge and podium. Begging for points is frowned upon. If you wish you can disable your reputation points by going to user cp-> edit options -> show my reputation level. Conversely, if you reputation is not enabled you can do so by doing the same thing. Under usercp you can see who gave you your last 5 points and any comments they might have left behind. A grey box is from people who are newly registered to prevent people from creating additional accounts to give themselves reputation points.

To give reputation points click either the user's reputation points or the green box next to it.

Reputation points are enabled only in the deal, deal discussion, and tech support forums (temporary sub forums not included), trying to rep in other forums or in private messages will get you an error message.

Reps cannot be required as part of a trade. If someone reps another as a thanks for a trade, that's fine, but you cannot ask for one.
If you offer to rep in trade, that's fine. If you say "reps appreciated, after trade complete", that is fine.

I could use some help. I purchased a phone that came with 6 months of free Republic Wireless phone service, which I'm unfortunately not able to use. Republic charges $180 for this same service, and I'd like to get at least a little back (even $40 or $50 worth of something I can use). I know selling is not allowed here, however I've noticed a few people in the same situaton offering it for trade in the main Deals section. They mention no price or value. Is this ok to do? What is the correct way to go about it?

You cannot do that on our site. Trades are limited to $5 here.

Understood. So the people looking to trade this aren't aware of that rule? I say this because I highly doubt anyone would bother to trade this for $5. I know I wouldn't.

Per forum rules, you may give away or trade an item of any value, however, you may not ask for anything more than $5.00 value in return.

Hello, not sure what account setting I activated, but I can no longer receive reps. Looked through different things in profile, but can't figure it out. Thanks.

it's in your privacy settings: https://slickdeals.net/forums/profile.php?do=editprivacy

the 2nd option is:
"Show Your Reputation Level
Your current reputation level is displayed to other users whenever you post a message. If you would like to hide your reputation, disable this option."
check the box next to "Show Your Reputation Level". and be sure to save your changes

note that this setting only exists in the classic version of the site, as far as i can tell, so if you need to switch views, the links to do so are in the footer on every page.
