Anyone have any experience with this Security Camera System?

I'm trying to help a buddy find and install some security cameras because he's been burglarized twice recently.

Costco has a Nightowl 8 camera system on sale this month for $399. Does anyone here have any experience with this system, or could point me in a better direction?

Thanks,

Was setting this system up for a friend, once I updated software on DVR the unit locked me out. Wouldn't take any of the passwords I set. Had to call customer service

I assume they worked you through it and the system is now operating.

What is your opinion of the picture quality at night?

Build your own by going with a commercial DVR/NVR (like Dahua or Hikvision) then pairing cameras with it. Commercial DVR's are not expensive, and you are not tied to a crappy residential brand with proprietary cameras.

Hi Pinchshopper,

I've done a small write up on it in the wiki here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

Bottom line imho - if you have coax cable already installed you should consider it, otherwise if installing new wiring go Cat5e/Cat6 and look for a decent PoE system.
