Google Pixel - Google Photos backup

1,908 1,031 October 3, 2017 at 09:39 AM
Hello,

I use Google Pixel and backup my pics to my Google Photos on cloud. My assumption is even if I delete any pic on my Pixel device, it should be still available on Google Photos which is whole purpose of backup. But if I delete any pic from phone, its getting deleted from Google Photos cloud as well. Can someone please tell me what I am missing here.

Thanks.

Use the free up space feature from the hamburger menu if you want to clear out photos on device and keep Google photos backup. If you just want to delete selected photos, you would want to use the delete from device option from 3-dot menu in Google Photos app

I selected "Free up device storage" from menu and it said all photos are backed up and safe to remove from device. I selected 'Remove', then it said some 300+ pics deleted and freed up some 2+gb space. But all the pics are still showing up in photos (on device)...weird..

That could be a bug. I remember it happens to me. Wipe Google Photos app data and do that again.

Doesn't the Google Photos app on any Android phone actually pull your photos from the Cloud? You'll need to check your local photo album to see if photos were actually removed from the device.

Yes, but on a Pixel there is no built in app like on a Motorola or Samsung phone.
