This has the PUMA 6 chipset. Does this suffer the same problems as the Arris SB6190??

Only those modems are included in "support" - you should be able to buy any DOCSIS 3.0+ modem

They claim a firmware update fixed the issues. But many report the latency bug is still happening. It took a lawsuit for Intel to admit the problem. I would avoid anything with a puma6.

Thanks, was about to buy the arris 1602a from ebay when a coupon showed up but guess I'll go with the other ones that has optimum support.

Most of those have been fixed already and a final firmware has been released by Intel and is just making its way through ISP's internal testing.

The ISP's that use this modem will probably have it out soon. ISP's that don't may have it later or perhaps not at all.

At this point, the problem is periodic very short periods of higher than normal latency under certain conditions. It really only affects gamers that are playing games that require low consistent latency. I have a 6190 and my kid games and doesn't complain about it anymore, but it was a problem 3-4 firmware releases ago.

The stain of the puma 6 is what is making these very cheap. If you aren't a high twitch gamer and/or have an ISP that rents these and don't mind a few glitches for a few months, excellent deal. Also very good for a backup modem.
