This is a NAS drive, so you'd probably be using this in some kind of protective RAID, though if your middle name is danger you could do a RAID 0.

But then I'd have to pay my city's outrageous (now) 10.1% sales tax.

The _last_ name is danger: Nick Danger. I use RAID -1, where only the checksum drives work. Great for keeping the NSA out, not so much for letting me in though.

Adding more drives here will help out though, right?

WD owns hgst, but yes i have seen better reliability in hgsts as they were geared towards data centers than the home gamer. Yes Reds are 5400 and an upgraded firmware from green or blues, i cant remember atm. I think I have seen reds for 160 lately in WD easystore. You can get a warranty on easystores if you shuck them and not break them. I think the seagates have a seal and so you lose warrenty. I hate dealing with harddrive manf about warrenty.
