I'm seriously considering the 512 GB one, as my first Mac. I'm a Windows and Android guy trying to spread my wings. I did a bit of research comparing the 2016 and 2017 versions, seems like it's just Intel i7 6th gen vs Intel i7 7th gen and memory clocked at 1866 mhz vs 2133 mhz.

Can anyone with more knowledge chime in here? Would you pull the trigger at this price with Black Friday right around the corner (I also hear Mac's never drop in price so timing is irrelevant)?

These prices are pretty good especially if you aren't hit with the tax - if you don't need 4K video streaming playback of the extra 5-10% processor speed you can save yourself a few hundred bucks on the higher end model vs a new one in the Apple store. I would avoid the lower end though because the graphics are pretty weak - it was underpowered when it came out and is now no longer even sold anymore by Apple, and you will never be able to expand that 256 SSD.

If you game I would probably recommend custom ordering and getting the 460/560 graphics option (they are the same card) as the bump in performance seems like it
Would be noticeable.

These are good laptops though - I don't know if you will ever see too much better than this unless Best Buy starts to clearance some open box models. I got a last gen 13 inch from them a year ago for $600 off list. Those deals are rare though.

If you plan on editing 4K 10-bit HEVC video, you'll need the 2017 MacBook Pros. The 2016 models don't support 10-bit (only 8-bit HEVC), even the ones with dedicated graphics cards.

Wow, that's insane to shut the whole business down like that for so long. Anything to appease their imaginary friend, I guess.

How would you custom order a discontinued 2016 model Apple laptop from bh? Not following you here.

I think this is a pretty good price for a nice apple laptop, even if it's the 2016 model. Thumbs up from me! Thanks for posting.

I usually hate when people come in bragging about a previous deal, but check frys prices... maybe you can get it price match for a lower price with your CC. I got this model for $1300

The issue is that you have to provide a screenshot with a price the day of or after you purchase the item. So it would be hard to pm the Fry's deal now.

I wonder whether it is a refurbished one or a new one?

According to geekbench scores my late 2013 15 pro is only 11% slower in single-core and 9% slower in multi-core. My only point is that you will be happy with either of them. The performance has plateaued in my opinion.

I second that. I just went with 2015 version of MBP instead. I have read a lot of issues with the buggy touch bar, annoying usb type c ports, battery life and heating issues with 2016 models.
