I don't get it, why is this even a deal? Amazon's new 10" model comes out in like 7 days, it is larger, uses newer technology, and only a couple dollars more than the 32GB version in this deal: https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Am...140&sr=1-2
This OLD model doesn't even have Wireless AC technology. That's how old it is.

Have you ever tried an HDX series kindle fire? The resolution and quality of the screen is much better.

What good does 802.11ac do for a tablet anyway? 802.11n is actually pretty good.

You probably got a bad one. We have several that have lasted way past the warranty. Keep in mind they have been used from my 6 year old since he was 4.

Better range via AC and just overall speed in general. It is just a much superior wireless technology. The new tablets have Alexa integrated into it too. Most people here on slickdeals have Alexa enabled devices so even more reason to get the newer device. Resolution is overrated. More pixels = less battery life. The new tablets have over 10 hours of battery. I'd much rather have better battery than a slightly more crisp screen and have to be connected to the wall all the time.

These tablets should be under $100 brand new. These tablets here are refurbs.
This HDX 8.9 supports both 802.11ac and Alexa. It only doesn't have Alexa hands free mode. I agree that the price should be under $100.

This deal at woot is the old 3rd generation HDX. The 4th generation had 802.11ac not the 3rd gen. This 3rd gen model came out in 2013. vomit

EDIT: Maybe its the 4th gen actually. The confusing thing is that Woot links their product listing to Amazon's 3rd gen HDX page.

Amazon has yet to release tablets that come anywhere close to the hdx series. They're better in every regard. The reason being because consumers like you are dumb enough to buy these and make claims like you did in your post.

The new tablet only has 2gb of ram, and the Fire OS is based on Android 5.0. No Google Playstore and if you side load apps, many won't run properly. It's already a dinosaur and hasn't even come out yet. Stick with an Android tablet unless you are sucked into Amazons world. For apps, this is not a good tablet.

My post on Woot:
These keep dropping in price. I think this is a very good value at this price point. I bought mine at $10 higher and have no qualms, it is the best tablet I own (of 4. However the caveat being that these may be offered with limited support by amazon, updates and functionality can be impacted at any time. My Fire phone will no longer be able to utilize voice activation effective 11-1, simply because Amazon longer sees benefit in supporting a device it no longer sells.
Though I agree with the limited memory as being an issue, I think of it a small obstacle, so long as you are willing to actively manage your memory usage. The portability of most downloadable material is fairly flexible with more robust devices (options) like wi-fi hard-drive, laptop\tower computer, the cloud and so on. It is an issue as it will slow you device (I highly recommend the extra $20 investment for the bonus 16gb), but with active management and awareness I don't see it as a deal breaker.

Like other have said, when you are talking about a consumption device (used strictly for reading, watching movies & shows, surfing and game play), the most important thing is a high quality screen, and the HDX had one of the best.
The contrast, resolution, and color fidelity of the current Fires are poop next to the HDX.
I understand making low cost options to entice customers and build a bigger base. But where is your premium model?
They it for e-readers: you have the intro Paperwhite, mid-range Voyage, and premium Oasis.
I really wish Amazon would offer a high-end tablet option again, a real successor to the HDX, until then I'll keep my 64GB 4th Gen until it dies, or maybe move to an iPad Pro this Black Friday.

Model:Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, Saturn (2014) Remember people, these tablets were over $370 when they were released. This is more than 50% off. I have 2 7" HDX from 2013 that are both still going strong. They are built like tanks and with a otterbox case, my two boys have loved theirs. Thanks OP. Got one of the 32GB. Repped + Thumbsup
