I've always felt this game was expensive considering the cost of the materials, so I made my own bootleg version with a deck of cards and some cardboard pieces for the tokens.

The game setup requires 3 camels in the market, so naturally, my wife and I call our version of the game "camelcamelcamel". Smilie

This is a good two player game. Hasn't been in stock or a good price for a long time.

I suspect those are counterfeit copies. Getting to be an issue with board games, sadly. From BGG forums [boardgamegeek.com]:

I just unfortunately received a knock off copy. The cards and tokens are all miscut and off center and one of the gold cards had writing printed on the border of the back of the card so you would know what your opponent had in their hand. Asking for a refund and will be buying a legit copy.
While IMHO $18 still seems somewhat high for the number of components, I'd much rather receive a quality/durable product and support the creator. Attached is a photo of a Chinese knock-off and the sloppiness in printing is readily apparent (in addition to the tokens and box being flimsy and miniaturized with no insert).

This game is one of our favorite two-player games. Yes, it's a bit pricey for something that is basically a card game but I try to look at the value of a board game as it relates to experience and number of games. This game has entertained us and continues to come out to the game table so definitely worth the price in my eyes.

According to camelcamelcamel, it's been 18.18 $ on an average. Lowest is 1.95$!

Still ordered one.

I would say a 9 or 10 year old could understand the game fairly easily.

Looks fun, but seems similar to Splendor so may be redundant to have both?

Yes, family friendly and easy to pick up. Bit of luck involved, so it's not always the most experienced player who wins the round (though there certainly is strategy involved). And games are quick, so good as a filler or for those with short attention spans.
