After seeing it at the store, I went with Ariens 28 inch. This is a one time investment, I did not want to cheap out and regret. What convinced me not to buy it was the plastic deflector, which you would have to walk over and change every time you want to change the direction of snow throw.

If you get a ton of snow, then yeah, the Ariens is better but it's also > $1K so one needs to see if it's worth it.

To be clear for anyone, you can use the crank to change the direction of the snow throw but you do need to step around to adjust the top angel of the snow throw which changes how far and high the snow goes. I have a now 10-year old version of this model (craftsman version) and I rarely adjust the angle more than once per use. It usually blow the snow as high and as far as I can unless there is wind blowing it back at me.

It is also worth calling out that after 10 years I have had no problems with my MTD made Craftsman unit. Just regular maintenance and I replaced the slide shoes once. For half of that time my driveway was 200 feet long in Chicago. Spending more money would not have gotten me a better quality snow thrower. However, I do wish I had a larger one with more features.

Good info. I suffered with the snow joe last year, especially when the plows came overnight and dumped 2' of ice at the end of the drive way. I was the only loser standing out there for over an hour cleaning it up. I don't see an issue with the plastic chute and manual crank as long as you know what you're in for when picking up this unit, especially for less $450.

There is a thread on SD where you can make your own. No need to buy it. Plus, the $60 coupon is better than the 10%

Repped. I missed out on the last one, thanks. Go to https://slickdeals.net/f/9549456-lowe-s-10-15-50-off-online-coupons-sharing-only-no-off-topic?p=1054... . I just picked one at random and got a 60 off 400.

This is a great deal for people who don't get a lot of snow. I have this blower and live in SE Michigan and it is not sufficient for the heavy snows that we get occasionally but it works fine 80 percent of the time.
  • It has a manual chute exit control (the top part). If you leave it loose enough so that you can adjust it on-the-fly, heavy snow will often adjust it for you!
  • There are no individual wheel clutches so you're forced to muscle this thing through turns. I am often sore the next day. It is a good workout. My wife will not use this because she cannot muscle it. This was not true of our older Craftsman blower with individual wheel clutches.
Other than that, this is a good deal.

Just FYI - Miami stores are getting low on stock so don't delay if you want one.

FYI, one of my particular quirks to look for in snowblowers is whether they use a bolt or a lynch pin to lock the wheels to the axle. If it doesn't use lynch pins, I'm not buying it. I've had minimal success removing wheels that where bolted on vs pinned. Maybe I'm in the minority.

I got an old craftsman with a plastic shoot. When it gets cold and start throwing small rocks it will break the plastic shoots. I put a piece of sheet metal on mine after I replaced it the first time to prevent future breaks I would love to get a new one with a fast turn swivel to change the direction back and forth.

Just my thoughts
