Walmart is selling 5 quart SuperTech 5W-20 Motor Oil for $9.68:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/SuperT...t/16565451

I have personally used this oil for our vehicles for the past 10 years. I change the oil every 4-5K and have had no issues to report. If you're not picky about your oil, this may work for you. The price is typically $12 in at my local Walmart.

Why buy this when you can get the Mobil supper for $8-9 after rebate?

Just a guess:

Some people prefer not to deal with rebates?

Define 'way cheaper' and 'better oil'

IIRC, while my local stores have Chevron supreme and not formula shell, typically it's still above $20/case of 12qts when on sale. Not really a significant savings.

Now Sam's Club has cases of Certified brand oil (SN/GF-5 conventional) for $20 everyday price - it's the same quality and manufacturer/blender as supertech.

Formula Shell is still a GF-5/SN spec conventional oil, same as this. I doubt SOPUS blends their standard bulk conventional oil to any higher spec than it needs to be (which, today is leaps and bounds better than the oil of even 20 years ago). So again, it's not really any better of an oil. It's not a full or blended synthetic, so both should provide the same service life and protection. I've never once seen Supertech oil cause a problem, excessive wear or sludge. I'm not spending $35 to get a UOA on $12 worth of oil - I'd rather just change it at 5000 miles.

Quite frankly, for the price I typically go with Chevron supreme (same as havoline) for $12/5qt from Amazon or cases from costco which is more convenient, as my vehicles take 5, 6, and 7 quarts. However, with all the sales going on lately, I've stocked up on autoquest synthetic and synthetic blend (Meijer house brand) due to fairly regular b1g1 50% off sales.

My last fill (yesterday) was Castrol Magnatec because it only cost me $22 for 6 qts and I would rather have a full synthetic in for the winter so I don't have to change my oil before the tail end of February - and the "magnetic molecules" should offer some extra protection over the winter. Then again, I drive a grand marquis - you could probably fill the crank case with mayonnaise and it would be okay.

How are they way cheaper than 2 a quart? Costco always seemed on the high side for oil, so what is it?

The only way you're getting oil cheaper [amazon.com] and still about $1.90/quart - granted, its a synthetic blend.

That being said, I've actually been been tempted before to order 5 gallon pales, I just don't have the space for it in the garage. While I've never used Miles oil in my car, I know a couple people who use their diesel oils in trucks/boats and have nothing but good things to say - mostly about the price.

Because its cheaper than it usually is.... At what point do you consider something to be a slick? 15% off an already fantastic everyday price sounds like it qualifies to me.
