All of the games in this bundle are available on Steam for Windows, and some for Mac and Linux. You may also choose where your money goes between the developers, and, if you'd like, a charity of your choice.

$1 for RPG Maker VX Ace is an epic deal. That's the tier I'm going with. It came out 4 years AFTER VX, and that's in the higher tier! Makes absolutely no sense. Just get VX Ace and you are set.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I believe the reason for this is that VX Ace was released first in the West and then VX was released after. Development wise, VX Ace is newer, but not for Western release.

A Steam search shows VX Ace release date of Dec 10, 2012 and VX release date of Oct 20, 2016. But when you go into the pages themselves it shows the development release date of Dec 10, 2012 for VX Ace and Feb 29, 2008 for VX.

So VX Ace released in the West in 2012 and VX didn't see release for Western audiences until 2016. Same goes for the other RPG Maker titles as well. RPG Maker XP came out in 2005 originally, but didn't see a Western release until 2013. RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 didn't see Western release until 2015.

If the Humble Bundle tiers are going by Western release dates, then they make sense. But overall value by price and age of software, the $1 tier is by far the best.

And I would say avoid the $50 tier. Unless if you really want that RPG Maker MV Starter Pack. The main program, RPG Maker MV, has been on sale for $23.99 on Steam in the past.

If the additional 99 cents to get the first tier is such a burden, you probably shouldn't get it anyway.

Fond memories of these. Put a lot of time into learning RGSS and Ruby for RPG Maker XP scripts. Sprite sheets using GIMP too.

A buck for VX Ace plus some extras is a good deal.

Could someone in the know post a quick summary of all the different RPG Maker variations?

For example, what is VX Ace vs. VX vs. 2000 vs. 2003 in the different tiers?

There are some features that were removed from VX Ace that were in past iterations of RPG Maker, but there were also a ton more that were added. However, many of the removed features can be added back into VX Ace through plugins and code you can find on various websites and forums. So ultimately a fuller experience can be had on VX Ace. The older programs are really just for nostalgia or for people that are just more accustomed to the older software. Ultimately RPG Maker MV is the best choice, but I would not pay $50 for it. It has been cheaper on Steam during sales for $23.99. Seeing how the Autumn and Winter sales are coming up it might be best to wait if you want MV.

Skyborn's one of the best RPG Maker games out there if you're looking at the higher tiers.

Is this required to play games other people make via RPG Maker? Or are those playable by anyone and this is just required to make the games?

Loved these when I was a kid for rainy days and Michigan winters. Despite not having nearly enough time to do much with this I will still bite.
