I ordered one of these from BBB and it was two years old. It's a discontinued color. They have a shelflife of three years. Returned it.

I ordered in the earlier deal (July 2017). My seat had a manufacturing date of Oct 2015 which makes it already 2 years old before even using. However, the "lifespan" for the seat is 5 years and not 3 as you state.

Did you order from BBB or buy buy baby. I know same company. I wonder if buy buy baby has fresher stock or same warehouse.

Anyone know if in store would have a less expiration date on car seat, like fresher stock?

What does this expiration mean, how is it harmful for the baby?

The life of Chicco seats is six years, not five.

It isn't harmful at all, but the companies have convinced the powers that be that plastic can go bad in the sun, be brittle, etc. Most people think it is ridiculous, but you can't have an expired car seat because if you get in an accident or something and insurance discovers that your car seat was expired, they can deny claims.

They will not. The magic in this color is long discontinued. It's an exclusive to BBB IIRC. I checked them in the store a few weeks ago, and they were all the same. You need to get a Zip from them if you want a current one.

Trust me, you won't get any fresher stock from either. People have ordered from both and have received the same mid-late 2015 seat.

We've been using a KeyFit 30 for about 4.5 months now and we really like it.

The convenience of being able to transfer our baby between cars (by buying a 2nd base) and between a matching stroller is great. No need to wake/disturb the baby to transfer her. Even the grandparents bought bases just in case we ever had to transfer her to their car. Ends up being cheaper than everyone buying a dedicated seat, and it's nice to know that everyone will be using the same quality/safety of a seat.

Also the KeyFit 30 had the highest rating on Consumer Reports for use and safety. They recommended the dedicated infant seats over the "All-in-One" seats. They describe the "All-in-One" seats were a jack of all trades master of none. That's in addition to most "All-in-One" seats not having the same quick transfer abilities as the dedicated infant car seats.
