I have 3 of these, they are excellent.
Never paid more than $80 for any of mine.
1st one was a Black Friday Amazon special for $80 in 2015 - Kitchen
2nd was only $30 with use of $100 of Best Buy rewards. - My Office
3rd one I got when QVC had them for $69 - Wife's Office.
I don't need another one.
I use my Tap a lot when outside and walking around the house.
My Dot with a Bluetooth Speaker is in my bathroom for news and music while in the shower.

Im pretty sure NY times lost more money than gain unless they were only looking for a short burst of subs until they ship out those devices.

Have to think Google was practically giving them away to NY times though. Coincidence it was on the same day as their new Homes were announced/released?

Very true, and a better mic for $20 vs 2 year old hardware seems like a no brainer

There's GOING be a $60. The new one will be $85 thru various sales, visa check out, buying a $15 off $75 eBay coupon etc. with the new one being $100 and $85 sporadically, they have to sell the old one at $60, right?

I paid $65 for this last month plus got 3 audio books via audible. Depending on how you value the audiobooks, I saw this as $40 after the audiobooks.

Was $75 QVC slick deal plus $10 back via swagbucks.com.

Google Assistant "Smarter" but less entertaining (Good for the office)... The Echo is PERFECT for playing music and doing some BASIC commands... I fight far less with my Google assistant with commands web search things but the Echos SPEAKER is whoa loud! My2c I say buy bothSmilie
