Makes me feel kinda bad I bought the 1700 for $270 just a couple weeks ago. Then again, the 1700X and 1700 are practically the same, right?

You should get similar performance with a slight overclock on the 1700. Plus 1700x doesn't come with a cooler.

1700x is a better choice for people who have no intention to overclock. 1700 is perfectly fine if you know how to overclock them. 1700 for $270 is a great deal, IMO.

Haven't seen one for sale yet. Do you have a link to this? I'm going to bet for the next 6 months these will be in short supply and not discounted. Meanwhile when Ryzen 2 drops matching or beating the i7-8700k, the prices of R7 1700/1700X/1800X's will drop. Either pay double for the latest and greatest or pay half for something that will be good enough for the next 5 years.

But it has its own problems too, heat, usage of inferior TIM, required large coolers even for stock settings. Reviews say it can hit 90C with 240mm rad on stock Turbo - WTH is that? They recommend undervolting, lol...

Yes it does perform better, but the cost of getting an aio cooler to keep it running stable, because it runs really hot imho is not worth it. Also really depends what you will mainly use it for.

What are new system builders doing for video cards now since ryzen has no onboard graphics capability and gpus are crazy overpriced right now. Wonder if that is pointing people to Intel CPUs for now until video card prices get real again.
