Nice but I'll wait until next year when the four cores are available and USB-C bugs have been squashed.

Does Lenovo still whitelist system components in the BIOS to prevent self-selected upgrades?

Yes, though I'm not sure if that's only on Ideapad or also for Thinkpad. In my experience it's only usually wificards that get whitelisted.

wifi cards in thinkpads are still whitelisted, preventing self-selected upgrades. i work in a thinkpad etc. repairshop and have only seen these boot errors for wifi cards. i can't even test a wifi card to confirm a hardware diagnosis unless it is the very same model wificard that shipped with the lappy.

How is this even a deal?? X270 is 734 on their website. When you add to cart and apply coupon its raises the price to +1000 and then takes 30% off which brings us back to that 700 price point.

Base configuration was acceptable 10 years ago (4gb, HHD, crappy screen resolution).
Today I will only consider 8gb, SSD and 1080p display. After those upgrades + tax and shipping it is above 1k after discount.

I have the $60 off $300 promo on my Amex Blue cards. Also Lenovo lets you pay with two cards, so it should be possible to combine two Amex card offers for laptops over $600, potentially knocking $120 off the price.
