I googled ST3000DM008 - it appears that it is 7200rpm.

Is there anyone that will price match the Newegg total after code? I don't buy drives from Newegg. All of my failed drives were from them.

According to some articles seagate used to have between 15-20% failure rate over its warranty period. Im not sure about their newer line of HDDs

Newegg usually just throws it in a box, with little or poor packaging, and then FedEx or UPS test their strength with it. It's no wonder that so many people have problems with sensitive devices, like hard drives, when purchased from them.

I'm sure this is a dumb question but im new to PC building: is SATA 6.0gb/s just a different term for SATA III, or are they different?
They're the same thing. Some people casually refer to the bus speed instead of the version. SATA I, II, and III, have speeds of 1.5Gbit/s, 3Gbit/s and 6Gbit/s respectively. The speed itself is completely irrelevant in a mechanical drive though as you'll never get anywhere near 6Gb/s. I believe most modern drives peak at around 2Gbit/s. The newer standards do have some small features that aren't present in the older versions. However those features are rarely noticeable to the average consumer.

Of course an SSD is a different story, with most being able to max out a SATA III bus with ease.

Good luck with 5 drives that were just returned from a round trip to a customer and back (plus whatever reason they returned it in 1st place) or banged up already in general

And AWD not known for their fabulous shipping practices. Lucky if it comes in a small box let alone secured or in hard drive packaging

At least they ha e good returns policy on previously returned goods
