If you don't run, it could hold for a week even after 1 year use. If you run twice a day, 30 minutes each (like me), it could stay for 4 to 5 days. Pretty decent battery life and I LOVE IT.

You are absolutely right, but in some cases it doesn't matter. It can capture and assist with a wide range of outdoor (and indoor activities). Could not find a device that helped with running maps, golf distances/scoring, and heart rate for a comparable price. Because of the functionality, look didn't matter to me. It is still plenty comfortable though

The Vivoactive 3 just came out. Has a better heart rate sensor. Records alot more data, every second for workouts, and more heart rate info when just wearing it. Alot of upgrades. Looks better, etc. Also double the price selling at 299.
Have the original vivoactive and am pretty happy. Going to wait 6-10 months for the new Vivoactive 3 to appear on slickdeals

Been wearing mine since last Black Friday (at this cost). Offers a ton of features at a reasonable price. Only downside I had was my band splitting. They replaced it, though they said in most cases they would not.

What's the realistic battery life on this?

Mine lasts about a week while using the GPS 3-4 times a week for about 30-40 mins. Can definitely last longer if you use it just to count steps & never use the GPS. It's a really good watch. I've had mine for about a year & really like it. It's not the most stylish, but as a GPS watch it's great.

I can easily go 4-5 days without charging. Obviously using the GPS will drain it significantly faster

I need to give this a plug. I have the older version of the vivoactive and absolutely love it. Like others have said, great battery life - over a week between charges if you don't use GPS. Mine though stopped charging after about a year and half. Garmin replaced it with a refurbished one AT NO COST (except what it cost me to ship the old one to them).

I love my Vivoactive HR. I primarily use mine as a bike computer with Garmin's bike speed and cadence sensors along with an external heart rate monitor. Works great for that. I also wear it all day to track all day heart rate, sleep and steps. It is geared as more of a fitness watch than a typical smart watch. It has some basic text, call, facebook notifications, but nothing too advanced.

Mounted mine to the bike with this:
