It will work perfectly. Core i7-7700HQ is similar in performance with a desktop Core i7-6700. So That will not bottleneck the GPU like 1080 Ti.

Thanks for the response. The atiko egpu website does not list it as compatible

The better question I would think is what can you play on a 15" screen that warrants a GPU like that? I guess if you're looking for 150fps that's a way to go but the 1060 is a fine card for 1080p gaming.

With eGPU you typically want to hook to an external monitor.

I see, but then I wonder why even bother with a laptop? Maybe just for times you're not on the go. I've owned laptops in the past and I always just end up leaving them stationary for their whole life so I've gotten away from them entirely. I think one has to be honest with their intention to take a laptop places with them and playing games in those places. Just doesn't fit my lifestyle.

You're right. eGPU is just a "cool to have" at the moment. Not really practical yet.

Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7 CPU, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, VR Ready, 15.6" Full HD, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, G3-571-77QK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZ...2zbP3S794P

100$ cheaper, arguably sturdier metal chassis and better cooling, lacks the 1tb drive but the trade-off is that it looks like a spaceship

Not very reliable. I have the exact same laptop and sent it in for repair 4 times for the same issue. Randomly shuts off

Can you point me to a model there? The cheapest laptop I can find with a 1060 is $1199 on their site.

Note that reviews seem to indicate poor cooling which results in both high temps (95+ under typical gaming loads) and throttling.

I'm considering trying it. Sucks they skimped on such a crucial aspect though. An extra $5 of material and it'd be fine :/
