If you are going to buy another lens for your crops sensor e-mount Sony camera, buy this lens at this price. Excellent portrait lens and noticeably sharper pictures thsn the kit lens. It lives on my a6000.

Solid lens. Was my first and only lens for my A6000 for 6 months. Added the 35 version so I didn't have to be so far back from subjects.

great lens for the price. It was my first and only lens for my a6500 for about 6 months until I bought some g master lenses that destroyed this one lol (but they were also $5,000 total).

The only auto lens on my a6000 is Sony 35mm, others are all manual focus lens from ancient time. 😃

Buy this, you'll have so much fun if this is your first portrait lens. Forget the iPhone and Samsung portrait shots.

The 35mm is what I thought was more ideal over the 50mm also. I want to get one of the two but always see conflicting advice.

Been waiting for an e-mount f/1.8 to go on sale.

Should I hold out for the 35mm over the 50mm?

So far I only have the kit lens (16-50mm) from my a5000.

Keep in mind, the standard phone lens is a 35mm equivalent. This lens will capture "less of what you see" than your iPhone will.

depends upon your needs. as an all around lens, the 35mm is generally more useful for the average person, especially as your first lens - and also depends upon what other lenses you have.

Great lens if you want that sweet bokeh (background blur). But at others have mentioned, you will need to backup a bit, which is why most end up eventually getting the 35mm version - myself included. But that lens is almost double the cost. At this price point, it'd be hard to pass up if you have a Sony crop sensor camera - a5000/a5100/(a6000a/6300/a6500.

Exactly. We have not and if we are just going out somewhere random the 35 goes too. If we are going somewhere specifically to take portraits the 50 goes. Rarely use the 20 and haven't played much with the macro or 55-210 at all.
Usually it's the 35 for all around use and 50 for portraits for us.
