Maybe a silly question - but what is the point of a wifi crockpot? Can it be on refrigeration mode up until the cooking starts, so the food won't spoil, or can it only be used for vegetarian dishes?

I'm all about automating the things in my house, so would pick one of these up if I could figure that part out.

So you can change the temp before you leave work for example, so its hot and ready by the time you get home. Use your imagination---there are a lot of uses.

I paid $15 for a 5Qt digital programmable pot from Macy's, Bella I think. It works great! I can program three different mode changes, including an automatic "warm" cycle if my schedule changes at work.

This is stupid and a waste of money, IMHO..

Sounds like a great way for a hacker to cause a house fire...

I agree. Slow cooker, 2500 degrees! I find wifi useless for a product like this.

You can essentially do the same thing the folks with the wifi sous vide cookers do if your recipe calls for water. Pack it with enough ice to keep it out of the bacterial danger zone, start it up when you need.

My primary concern with these is if the power outage problem still exists [amazon.com]. It would shut off and not restart unless you were present to physically do that manually.

It does. There is a user-created device handler for it.
