Two pack of WiFi outlets that work with Alexa and Google Home. I've been keeping an eye out for outlets like this and $10 a piece seems like a good deal.

No hub needed. Your wifi and alexa or google home is a hub already. However, I recommend buy the one that work with hub seperately because you can do a lot more things not just on and off and think that if you 10 or 20 nodes at your home from a bunch of manufacturers then you will need one app for each on your phone. Also smart home can do like temperature and humidity and motion dectec for examples then this cannot be integrated in the hub. Buy zigbee or zwave thing not wifi.

Same guy that started Woot before selling it to Amazon. I've not bought anything from it but I'm sure it's fine.

Samsung smartthings is $50 when on sale. But you can do a lot of things like home automation by it self and security not just on or off. This switch still need your voice comand everytime. Also you will buy a buch of these from many manufactures then end up with a buch of apps for each on your phone. Buy either z wave or zigbee then they will work with smartthings no problem some of them still work when your wifi is out like the door lock I just bought because it zwave and smartthings have backup battery.
