This is a good deal. I have a bunch of aeon lab switches which are often available at the same price point on deals.

Some cool uses that I have setup via smartthings: My oil furnace runs through a switch. Energy use pretty accurately tells me how much oil is left in the tank. My sump pump energy use tells me how much water is being pumped. My basement fridge use and 24hr server for zoneminder+plex.

Notice that in all cases above, I need energy use from an always on switch. Unfortunately, this monoprice switch does not monitor energy on the unswitched outlet. Smartthings needs to support an "always on" mode for these so that they are not accidentally switched off in the app.

That is the main reason I took the Aeon switch off my sump pump because I came down one time and it was off.

Almost jumped on this until I saw the Q/A section:

Is this UL/CSA approved?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This item would not be UL/CSA certified.

Wow good call. +100 to this right here.

If this turd catches fire or in some way contributes to or causes a fire... what a nightmare. I'd rather not take my chances with the lives of my tenants above me and my own life. Not to mention the potential financial ruin if an insurance claim were to be denied based on using a non UL or otherwise listed/approved device.

Nice try. Seriously even if UL certification added $10 to the cost of the product I'd pay it... fück that shit, not worth the risk.

I have one of these and am using it with VeraPlus controller. The range on this thing is very poor... It's maybe 15-20 feet away from the controller and often is not recognized. If I plug it to an outlet closer to the controller it works OK. My other plug-in outlets have a much longer range.

Also, it does not seem to report the correct wattage of a lamp I plug into it. A 60W lamp is sometimes reports 700W and other times 450W.

I tried two of these and neither would pair with a Samsung Smartthings hub, reading the reviews it seems to be a common problem.

I'm so grateful I saw this. I hadn't read it until you pointed it out.

Already ordered 3, but hopefully they'll let me cancel my order in time.
