They primarily made 2.5" hard drives and other sub 2.5" form factors for many years until Western Digital & Hitachi merged some years ago. In order to allow the merger and make things competitive, WD and HGST had to give Toshiba access to certain IP rights and thus you now see Toshiba making 3.5" drives again.

As for reliability, here's [backblaze.com]BlackBlaze (an online backup company) analysis on what drives are the most reliable.

In general HGST drives have proven the most reliable whereas Toshiba and WD have a smaller sampling size due to BlackBlaze having issues getting large drive shipments from these vendors versus Seagate and Hitachi.

Nice find...Thanks for posting.

I've got ReadyNas with 2x2TB now. One disk is in predictive failure. This will double my storage capacity for a very reasonable price. Can't give you more than 1 TU.

Of course, it has High Reliability right in the name! /s

I didn't know Toshiba made drives. Are they new to the market? I am also curious on their performance if anyone does know for real.

There's a correlation issue with BackBlaze data issue where comparing 3-4 year old HGST drives to sub 2 year old WDs, etc. Under 2 yr is the death zone. Once you get past that then they should be good for 5-6 years no problem.

I see a few places mention that this disk uses 512 byte sector lengths, instead of "Advanced Format" 4,096 byte sectors.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1GM71BJQWDT6D/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B06Y2V... [amazon.com]

Will this limit performance and/or be incompatible when mixed with other models (e.g. WD Reds) in RAID or ZFS?

Is there any way to pay Newegg extra to actually properly pack the drive for shipping? Or is there anyone that will match this price?
