Google this model number and you'll see that this drive (just like its USB 2.0 predecessor, the ECD829-SU) is sold under multiple different brand names. Sunvalley is one. It's available via AliExpress for $10.49 under the DeepFox brand. I found at least 8-10 brands that the older version was sold under and I wouldn't be surprised if the same was true for this one, as well.

Does USB 3 matter much compared to USB 2 in regard to DVD drives?

My thoughts exactly. Its like pissing into a 10 foot diameter pipe. The water is not going to exactly gush out.

The only difference is the one at AliExpress for $10.49 is not for an drive but just the external enclosure for a CD/DVD drive. You would still need to get a drive to put into the enclosure.

You are right, USB 3.0 doesn't matter for a DVD drive. Hell, you don't even need USB 3.0 for a Bluray drive until you pass 12x speeds.

Regarding USB 2 vs USB 3 drives:
The last external DVD drive I had (which was a while ago) had to be connected by 2 USB cables, 1 for data and 1 for power. Is that still true with USB 2? I thought USB provided more amps, so it could be powered and use data from 1 port. Is this correct? If not, then there goes the only pro I could think of for getting USB3 drive.

You may have a point there. More juice. Good point.

The link redirected to the homepage for me, but it sounds like this version has the same setup as the previous version - the model number is on the enclosure, so it comes up for the case or the case/drive combo. So you never know what's inside because (re)sellers as well as the general public can buy the case alone.

I also just automatically side eye Amazon posts with codes, since I've been contacted by email (at an address not even associated with my SD account, but with my username in it) by multiple sellers and offered up to $20/post to post sellers' deals on SD from my "experienced" account. I'm not necessarily saying this is the case here, but I'm curious...OP, do you mind sharing where you found this code?
