Can't be as bad as what they've done to the Klingons in Discovery...

Haha that is true. I love their new warping capability for Discovery (sarcasm).

As much as I am happy to see Star Trek return to television, or at least torrents that I can play on my television, I have some serious issues with this new show.

1) The whole traitor thing. Ok, she knocked out the captain and TRIED to fire preemptively on the Klingons. But was stopped. Before she could. So she never fired on them. They attacked, the fleet fought back, and she risked her life to go with the captain and get whats-his-name as a hostage. They pulled her back before she could. Fast forward, and she is sentenced to life for treason and accused of starting the war. How did she start the war exactly? I understand the treason thing, as she defied the captain, but that doesn't equate to starting a war.

2) So there is some spore thing that allows people to transport instantly anywhere in the universe. Hundreds of years before the rest of the canon shows. And this is the first we're hearing about it? How exactly does this fungus thing work? And how did it make some creature thing? And since when do Klingons go "shhh!". This is red matter all over again -- a stupid plot basis that makes zero sense.

I was trying to avoid spoiling it. Lol

To consider this show anything like the originals or the spinoffs, is laughable. I agree with you 110% on all those things and there's more that is questionable.

I feel like there is no build up of character. Let's just get into it type of thing and blow things up. That tall alien, whom is first officer, annoys me. And the characters I do start to like gets killed. Ugh

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of any of the characters yet. I don't even remember any of their names. Maybe they will develop them better over the season, but I doubt it.

Honestly, I am actually more impressed with The Orville. It feels more like Star Trek than Discovery.

I'll continue to watch it because of the graphics, and not many other choices.

I don't know if I want to try Orville. Seems like too much comedy for my taste. I love comedy but not so much in the trekkie area. I'm really at fence if I want to watch that show. Is there a goal or mission for that series?

Yeah, we will still watch Discovery as long as it's on. It's still the first ST show in a long time, and it sounds like Netflix is fully funding it anyway. Hopefully it goes to CBS TV next year when they realize they made a huge mistake.

I would recommend trying Orville out. While it is definitely more comedic than TNG, I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a comedy per se. They put in jokes and stuff, but there is still a lot of drama and a reasonably good story line. It is clearly a copy of Star Trek in many ways, but not a spoof. I'm not sure what, if anything, the over arcing story line will be for the show, as each episode feels more independent -- again similar to TNG. Explore, protect, etc. I've only watched the first couple of episodes where they are trying to introduce everything, so they might get more plot focused as time goes on. Plus my wife and I love Seth Macfarlane. But as I said, between the two, Orville is much closer to the original shows.

Ok maybe I'll give it a shot. I'm iffy about Seth. I love him to a certain degree but he can be overwhelming at times.

Any Star Trek superfans remember who he baked the cake for? I don't.
