Pay attention to securing your setup if you plan to connect this system to your internet router:

Quote from John Ricco
:
Remember to never open ports on your router.
Reason: I had ports open to view an IP cam (hikvision) remotely---Someone hacked in and changed the cameras name to HACKED

If you want to view this remotely, setup a vpn server using openVPN

On an asus router, it takes five minutes. On other routers, you better know what youre doing. I tried it on a router running tomato and it was tough.

Looks like the NVR can handle up to 3MP cameras:

LaView
NVR: LV-KN988P84A4

8 Channel
Audio Input RCA x 1
Recording Compression
3 MP / 1080P / UXGA / 720P / VGA / 4CIF / DCIF / 2CIF / CIF / QCIF

Compare with prior LaView deal from Newegg:

If you plan to pick up this kit and want more cameras, LaView still has a good sale on a couple of manual varifocal 3MP dome cameras for $140

Was the LV-KNT982D22D4 deal with the 4 dome cameras a better deal?

The products are different. in terms of pricing. the other deal isn't cheaper than this because you had to do a rebate, which also means you paid tax for that initial amount. this is straight up $299.99

Hi Paradigm,

As Alucard400 points out, they are different.

Now is a good chance to determine what your needs are and to look at the various options.

Dome cameras in general are better indoors - as they have more glare issues outside compared to bullet and turret versions, as well as over a longer term having issues with the plastic dome degrading under direct UV exposure.

You'll want to try to match your requirements with the various deals that are currently available, and the ones which will become available during the Black Friday period.

If you are in need of a system right away, this is good. It will give you better results than a 3 camera Arlo pro system once you have it up and configured, as well as better than the cheaper Annke analog system recently posted.

I've had this system for over a year and it still works great. I have supplemented the 4 cameras include in the this kit with 2 Wi-Fi cameras and a PTZ camera. Everything works using Hikvision protocols.

This was about the same price a month ago but included 2x4mp cameras and 2x2mp vs the 4x2mp for this one. Wish this was the same deal but I think I'll wait a bit more to see if it comes back

Hi MindPhaze,

Expect some good deals from Newegg on LaView kits during the Black Friday / Cyber Monday period.

Just decide what aspects are most critical so you'll know when to pull the trigger.

If you want to, I've collected a number of security camera video captures to help get an idea of what others have done - and also help me decide more on camera selection as well as placement. Please see the bottom of the wiki here:

just wondering what is the difference between this package and this one? which shows the same model/package code? the cameras look different but the specs are the same...
it is usually $499 but has also been $299 and I picked a couple sets up recently.

https://slickdeals.net/f/10525088-laview-1080p-poe-ip-security-camera-system-4-hd-2mp-cameras-with-matrix-ir-day-night-view-8-channel-h-264-nvr-no-hdd-included-299?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1

looking on LaView site, i cant find the cams pictured in this deal. it looks like it it is showing 3MP cams, but lists them as 2MP. the ones in the deal I referenced/bought are the LV-PB912F4C

thanks!

Laview costumer service sucks. Never reply back or answers their support department.

Same NVR, same price but came with 6 cameras. If not in a hurry wait till closer to the holidays.

*Take note: I still not once have had LaView answer their support phone. Just rings till it disconnects you. Frown

I have thought about getting WiFi cameras to add to my setup. How did you configure the network configuration on the NVR?
