Good price on the HyperX CloudX Pro. Cheapest it's ever been on Amazon is $79.99 according to CCC.

I have a HyperX Cloud II and wonder the same. They all look the same too.

I could be wrong but I think the Cloud II comes with that USB soundcard plugin that simulates 7.1 surround sound.

The one that works with more platforms is cheaper? Is there any reason to get the more expensive one one??

datasheets for both.

https://www.hyperxgaming.com/data...-SR_us.pdf -- cloud pro
https://www.hyperxgaming.com/data...-SR_us.pdf -- cloudx pro

they both seem to be the same, with the only difference being the hyperx cloudx being Xbox licensed which is perhaps why it's more expensive (?)

I've read the cloudx is basically the cloud 2 for consoles

for reference, here's the cloud 2 datasheet. make of it what you will

I always thought the xbox branded one had memory foam ear pads and headband. Where the cheaper one only has memory foam ear pads. Also thought the cheaper one had a bulky inline control box.

ok, after doing a bit of digging, here's what I've got (coincidently, my google prowess led me back to slickdeals):

Cloud - first version, no neodymium driver. Don't buy this version.
Cloud 2 - First to use Neodymium drivers. Comes with extra ear pads and a USB AMP
Cloud Core - Same headset as Cloud 2, doesn't include AMP or ear pads
Cloud X - Xbox branded headset, inline volume and mic mute on the cable, includes hardshell case, extra earpads. The actual drivers are identical to the 2 and Core
This one (i.e., Cloud Pro) - It's the same as the X minus the extra earpads and case

wasted way too much time looking into this considering I'm not even in the market for a headset much less a gaming one.

It does, but lack inline controls unless you use that USB dongle. Of course it is kind of useless now that software implementations of this is becoming more widespread.

I appreciate you sharing it and doing the research!

The Cloud II that I own is the best headsets I ever used for the price. Rock solid steel construction and the sound is great.

I won't believe that "no neodymium driver" statement until I see proof. They should all be the same base headphone. Kingston basically took a popular Chinese headphone, added a mic, and wrote "gaming" on the box.

These should all be the same headphone other than accessories, and that the 1 version has a little worse mic, and has separate plugs for mic/audio instead of a combined cable/plug.
