Seems like a good price - I think it's the same as about 3 weeks ago for the i7.

One problem... it's microcenter and quite inconvenient.

Is this eligible for the $30 discount if paired with motherboard?

I just got the similar build. Depending on if you always play latest games, I think it can hold 3-4 years for not too demanding work. I will mostly photoshop/play games like PUBG/Sim, I think 3-4 years should be good.

hm.. much to consider. I think if I part out my current system and sold it separately i can upgrade for little to no cost.

currently on the i7 2600k + R280x

This is the normal price for Microcenter. You can get $30 off if you bundle with a mobo (it can be open box also YMMV)

Major fail, the OP missed the star of the show R5 1600. $169.99. Comes with the Wraith Spire' cooler, the 1600X does not, add an extra $20+ for a competent O/C cooler. Performance wise the 1600 is within approx. 5%. No brainer go with the 1600 and save $50+

100% agree. You can easily overclock the 1600 to get close to the 1600X and you won't have to fork out any extra cash for a cooler. The factory cooler has been tested to keep it cool even when overclocked.

the 1600x is nothing but a bragging right CPU and to pad AMD's wallet.

to bad this is in store only. though I suppose you can get staples to price match at their 110%, which will make the deal a bit sweeter.
