A pretty good price for a premium pencil. It has its flaws but anyone in the market for a mechanical should jump on this one.

600 black model [amazon.com] (.5 mm) is only $16.xx and seems to be better rated.

Same principle as $100k for a car when you can buy one for $10k. They both drive on same roads and get you to same destinations.
But there are differences between the two

These are really nice mechanical pencils. I bought an older model that did not have a stylus and it was great. This is actually a great deal for this model.

Now if it was the 0.5mm I would have bought it. Can't stand 0.7mm anymore unless it's a Kuru Toga.

I use a Rotring all day, everyday. The one linked is also a stylus which is kind of gimmicky. Right now a 600 is $16.29 which is a great deal. Buy two. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...bw_c_x_1_w

But frankly, I like my Pentel graph gear just as much and it's always cheaper.

What are the flaws that OP calls out here? I'm on the lookout for rOtring 600.. If this is better then why not? Any experienced users who know the difference?

Exactly. They have metal parts inside for the clutch and shroud and great finishing. Whereas the cheap ones are plastic and starts slipping the writing tips at times

Breaks lead a lot, retractable tip is prone to failure, and no replacement parts ($18+shipping to get Rotring to fix the pencil). My 0.7mm 800 didn't even last a year, but I used to carry it everywhere. The 600 is overall better if you don't mind the non-retractable tip, but it's harder to carry around and the tip can still bend. The 800's internal mechanism is fairly fragile so even a 2ft drop may completely break it. If you're careful with your pencil (which you should for how expensive it is) then in most cases it will be fine.

I use Pentel Graph Tech, Kurutoga, and Zebra Tect. Like all of them, and like the look of this one, but can't see spending more money on pencils considering I use the computer and pens more than anything. But good deal.

Thanks and repped. I have a Uni kurutoga, Pentel Graph, Staedtler as my daily drivers.. Only the Pentel has retractable tip. My progression is (will be) rOtring 600 and finally a Lamy 2000. I'm usually careful with my pencils, but if there is a lot of lead breakage I will then skip the 800
