If you're brewing for multiple people, this is a good option, but it's relatively time consuming (if you do it "right"). If you're brewing just for yourself and maybe another, get a 1-3 cup pour-over (ie Kalita Wave, Hario v60, etc). It'll require less space to store. The Chemex is glass. You can get the other pour-overs in sturdier options such as steel, plastic, and/or ceramic.

I've heard many people complain that the Chemex filters absorb too much flavor. I never thought so. Although I suspect it might happen with lighter roasts. Other common complaints is the taste of their paper filters get extracted into the coffee. I never noticed that either. Their filters comes in bleached or natural. Some complain that the bleach ones taste like bleach so I always bought the natural ones. You can sometimes find their filters cheap at Cost Plus World Market. And yes, due to the shape of the Chemex, I do believe you have to use their filters.

I enjoyed the Chemex for many years, but I realized a 1-2 cup pour-over was better for me. Now I only use my Chemex to filter cold brew coffee.

Correct - basically a larger pour over coffee system. The chemex branded filters are also thicker than most generic filters which in my experience it makes for a smoother cup of coffee.

It's my go to method but the only down side is it can be fragile. Broke mine after a few years of use but I'm buying another one.

Showed up on my deal alert, which are few and far between on these CHEMEX things. Thanks OP !

Just a tad more than the last deal in April for $24.60 . But close enough for me, I miss my chemex that I broke when dropping it out of my truck after a camping trip (10 years old no doubt).

Got mine from toms last time they had this deal. Love it, of all my coffee gear this is my goto. Also grabbed a backup when starbucks had one for ab the same price a few months back. Only thing to note is that it has a Toms slogan or whatev you wanna call it. On the wooden collar mine reads "coffee for you...water for all"..and the back has a TOMS logo about a halfinch long. Not sure if that bothers some of you but its tiny and i dont notice it. There are no markings on the bead/ball that ties the leather cord. My leather is a skyblue color.. Great coffee from this.

I have never heard of these-what are they? Do you just pour boiling water through a paper filter?

Thank you-interesting. I bought three of them -one for us and a couple for gifts. The only downside I guess is that you have to remember to buy the paper filters for them. Where do you get the filters for the best price? And what grind do you use for the coffee?
