I have been an 'internet only' Centurylink customer since February 2016.
Initially I rented this modem/router for $10 per month until April 2016 when I bought a brand new one off Craigslist for $50.
Just recently the Wi-Fi started dropping out and we called out a technician who was about as much use as a chocolate teapot!
Not being a defeatist I called up technical support this evening and they mistakenly informed me that I rented the modem/router according to their records and that they would ship me a replacement for just $14.99 via UPS.
Considering the price on Amazon.com is $105.99 I bit on the deal offered.
I'm posting this deal in the hope that others can benefit to.

Do you have to pay monthly for the new device they are sending you?

Don't forget to monitor your monthly bills! Retention department gave me a new modem for free, but still got charged 100 bucks! After calling them I was told that I would be credited in 1 to 2 billing cycles. My experience with centurylink has been pathetic (with my monthly bills going up and down like a sine wave and never once have I got their promised monthly rate Frown).

Thanks for the tip!
I watch my online bank statements like a hawk so I very much doubt their antics will get by unnoticed.

Yeah their routine billing process is horrendous

The first 6 months of service my bill was different, and wrong, every month.

To the credit of their CSRs every time I called (and had to explain everything in full over again since they apparently keep no records)- the CSR apologized, and then issued me a credit for more than they overcharged me by as way of apology, and then said they'd submitted a ticket to fix it for the next bill.

Which of course wasn't true for 5 of the first 6 months.

They finally got it right, but thanks to the continual over-credits I actually paid significantly less those first 6 months than if they'd billed me correctly from day 1- so I kinda miss them screwing the bill up Smilie

Getting rid of CenturyLink service was the second happiest day of my life after the Cubs winning the world series. 😁

Hocuspocusblade, you have enough rep on SD to know this doesn't belong here.
