Edit: Target ones now expired, but Walmart still has the E4 for $39.88 if available in your area.

In-store only, Target offers the Verizon Moto E4 for $39.99:
https://www.target.com/p/verizon-...A-52597812 - Expired

and the Verizon Moto E4 Plus for $99.99:
https://www.target.com/p/verizon-...A-52597567 - Expired
(Discover Card holders get an additional 5% cash back at Target, if activated)

Walmart charges the same for the E4, if it's in stock:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Verizo.../953073971
(Chase Freedom credit card holders get an additional 5% cash back at Walmart, if activated)

Supplies vary depending on the store. Both phones can apparently be unlocked on ebay for $2.09, e.g. at:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unlock-Co...2184892835

Edit: Target offers a 30 days return policy on the phone, even if used (but check with your local store).

Note that Discover Card holders get an additional 5% cash back bonus on Target purchases (needs to be activated, see https://www.discover.com/credit-c...endar.html)

Adding phone details from thread:

Sorry for naive question, what would be cheapest mvno or option to get service for an elderly family member(needs small amount of calling/ texting/ data)?
Check out redpocket 1 year plans on eBay. $100 for 1 year of 500min/text/mb/month. Or look at total wireless, puretalk, or FreedomPop new yearly plan

Some time ago, I heard that these Verizon prepaid phones did not support or have the right antennas for GSM carriers even if unlocked (I think the phone was G Play). Not sure.. But is this not the case ? Would this work on GSM carriers (does it have the antennas and bands) if unlocked ?
I am pretty sure you are correct. GSM users need to buy the more expensive unlocked version. I am with Cricket and dare not try it unless I hear personally from another Cricket or At &t user

Is there much difference between the E4 and E4 Plus to warrant the $60 price difference?
5.5" vs 5". 5000 mAh battery vs. 3000 or 2800 mAh. Can't remember exactly.

I'm still using a galaxy s4 I've had for 4 years would this be worth it if I have no probs with this phone, other than bestbuy.com and walmart.com are finicky
I switched from my trusty Galaxy S4 to the Moto E4 about 3 months ago. Both are great trouble free phones but I do prefer the E4 for a few reasons. The E4 has superior speakerphone voice quality and battery life which are really important to me. I have no problem switching back and forth between these two and do it quite often. At first I missed having a notification led but an app called Popup Free pretty much solved that issue. Both have a feature I still really value which is the ability to quickly slide in a fully charged spare battery.

Does this support an external SD card? Can I use this as a dumb device (no phone) for my kids to play on it? Would I have to activate it?
It has an SD slot. Just bypass activation, put in airplane mode & turn on wifi. No need to activate. You might get a "not activated" notification but it won't affect using the device.

Could you elaborate more on the plus supporting more bands? What does this mean in terms of service providers that are supported on the E4 Plus vs the regular E4?
Here is full specs for E4 and E4 plus:

Beside a missing band for t-mobile it works fine for all GSM networks. Most are using it for GSM. For Verizon only postpaid works.

I'm sure many of you have noticed the Walmart Verizon E4 thread with 400,000 views on it. Well, the wiki in that thread (2nd post in thread) will give you helpful tips and pointers on carriers it works with and settings, and other useful info, this is new thread, but, why not get the experience of tons of users buying this phone, and letting you know what carriers work and what don't work with this phone and APN settings.

Asking newbie questions over and over and over, get's old fast, so read the wiki in other thread to get you up and running in no time flat.

If you still have questions after reading that wiki, ask your questions, and we will help you if we can.

1. Buy phone, do not turn it on
2. Buy the unlock code, it took 12 hours to arrive for me --> http://ebay.to/2zdjPKm
3. Once you get the code, take the verizon sim card out, and put in a AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket, any non-verizon sim card.
4. Turn on phone and enter the unlock code. Your phone will now work on AT&T and T-Mobile, and all GSM carriers in the USA and overseas (you would need to research the international band the country you are in uses). You can also use the phone on Verizon or its MVNOs. Sprint is the only carrier that you won't be able to use it on.

There is some debate on the normal E4 if it supports T-mobile's Band 12, which helps give signals when you are deep inside a building).

I can only speak for the E4 Plus and what I have seen using it on Cricket. I get 4G LTE everywhere for the last week I have been using the phone.

Both the e4 and E4 Plus do not have a notification LED. It's sad, but I just install the "Glimpse Notification" app to wake up/unlock my phone whenever I get incoming messages.

It works fine on Cricket once you buy the unlock code. Been using the E4 Plus for a week now.

What band is it missing for TMobile?

I prefer gsmarena as it distinguishes between the US and international versions:

missing band 71 but so are most phones including iPhone X.
