So, is this used so I can add 2 more SATA drives to my desktop (along with the onboard SATA controller) or so I can take advantage of newer SATA III drive speeds?

The specs don't list Windows 10 compatibility, does anyone know if this will work with 10?

Yes, you could use or add 2 Sata 3/ 6gps drives.
I am N41, my system has the older Sata 2/ 3gbs.

I bought a similar model in a similar deal recently to add to a desktop computer being used as a NAS. The computer only had 4 SATA ports built in but i wanted to use 4 HDDs for storage. Adding this card allowed me to connect the optical drive and gives me an extra port in case I need to connect another drive.

Keep in mind that the card's PCIe 2.0 x1 connection (500MB/s [wikipedia.org]) may be a bottleneck that prevents two SATA devices from communicating with the system at SATA 6.0Gbps (768 MB/s) speeds. If you're just connecting a few mechanical drives it's probably not a big deal but you wouldn't want to use this card to connect SSDs.

Syba provides a Windows 10 driver here [sybausa.com].

Got one from last deal. Installed on Supermicro H8DGi-F MoBo running Windows 2012 R2 Server. Working fine. I already had two other SATA PCIe cards (4-PORT IOCrest SI-PEX40057 and one of the same kind). This one gave BIOS Warning as THERE WERE TOO MANY PCIe cards. However, this was a warning NO ERROR. All the cards are working fine, good speed. Running 3x SSDs, 2x 8TB RED, 1x 3TB HDD in all three PCIe Cards.

Some one in the earlier deal mentioned about "Shared PCIe Lane" that can compromise speed - but haven't noticed anything out of ordinary. On board MoBo SATA-2 ports were much slower.
