Decent deal for those looking for a cheap phone. These are "refurbished", but at least they're at a reputable seller, with this in the description:

"Each device comes like new, with all the original packaging and accessories
All adjustments and repairs are made at a Samsung certified facility, backet by our 12-month limited warranty."

Yes, that's a typo on their page.

and:

"Certified Pre-Owned
Guaranteed to be fully functional with charger, data cable and little to no cosmetic damage. Limited 1-year warranty provided by CCR Warranty. To obtain technical/warranty assistance, contact CCR Warranty at 866-579-8436."

If either of that info is true, could be a good reliable phone with warranty. Returns should be easy if not satisfied.

Yes there are cheaper deals on refurbished/used on ebay and other odd sellers, or locked to pre-paid carriers, but this seems like a decent deal without much hassle. Wish they had these deals on S7 & S8, but hey, it's something.

Sidenotes:

I owned the S5 from October of 2014 till May/June of 2017 when I got the S8 for free after a lot of hussling on a BOGO deal and selling the spare. Only changed because of the free upgrade. and gave the S5 to my mother-in-law. She's loving it. S5 has removable battery, memory slot, and is water resistant, plus the glass is completely flat.
Friend has the S6 from when it came out in 2015 until now and he's good with it. S6 isn't water resistant and doesn't have a slot for a memory card.

Showing KitKat, any idea how far it will upgrade to? Lollipop? Marshmallow? Also it shows a required 2yr contract? is that holdover text from an old discription?

I really doubt that because they're refurb, but I looked again and didn't see that on the first two of each, both Verizon. I did see early termination fee, but again, that's highly unlikely. The checkout process should ask for account info/to make an account if that were the case and it didn't for me.

Also, I'm pretty sure that they're done with updates on the S5 at Marshmallow 6.0.1, which is where mine was at. I just looked up the S6 and the carriers sent out Nutella 7.x early this year, which will likely be the end of that one. Rooting and specialty software are easily available on most of the Galaxy devices though.

14yr old girl who wears a Verizon gear s2, is it worth it to drop the additional$100 for the S6?

I'm thinking the s5 is a better fit. water proof and swapping batteries, but I don't want to be penny wise and pound foolish

Don't forget the IR Blaster! From S5 to LG G5, and loving it. The S5 is long in the tooth... The last VZW "update" made my phone so ridiculously slow... As much as I liked the old girl, I wouldn't go back...

Beware of the $35 restocking fee if you buy and return these phones.

They didn't know they had them. They were "as new". Peel off plastic on the phone, not Mark on the exterior. Brand New battery, cables, owners manual, headphones all packaged the way the are when new. The box was brand new with slip cover, but made with recycled material and labled Referbished.

Separate warranty card identifying it as a refurbished phone - 1yr from Samsung. Used a pile of rewards points and got it down just under $100. She's a happy little girl.

Well, people seem to think this is a terrible deal. Not sure why, but there it is. Wish someone would post a deal for something comparable/better for a decent price. I'd say go with an S7 if you can find a good deal on that, or hopefully someone will be helpful with a better deal. Otherwise an S5 with custom ROM seems good to me. What phone is she using now?

edit:
Never mind, seems you got one already. Again, hopefully you can figure out how to put a custom ROM on it. XDAdevelopers is the place to go for that, but if she's happy with it, then the hassle may not be worth it.
