Is this much better than the 6i6 (1st Gen) deal from last week for $120?

This is an incredibly similar interface, but keep in mind that it's FireWire only, no USB connection. So unless you have a dedicated FireWire port, or if you're on an Apple and you have an Apple FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter, you may not even be able to use this. But even with the adapter, you're still only getting FireWire speeds, not Thunderbolt (not that it matters since the latency difference is indistinguishable to the human ear between USB 2.0, FireWire, & Thunderbolt). Also, just like the previous 6i6 deal, this also requires external power, so not as good for a portable rig as a 2i2 or 2i4 which can both be bus powered.

Lol I'm trying to imagine someone with a 2i2 or a 2i4 in their pocket on the go 😂

Haha... yeah, I guess I mean more for a semi-mobile studio. laugh out loud

My portable setup all fits in one backpack with my laptop, 2i2, mic, mini stand, headphones, and all the cables and accessories, so I can transport it easily to clients, hackathons, or when I'm traveling, plus I can run it all off the laptop battery for a couple hours without needing to plug into any power. It's not that it's like a pocket recorder, but it makes a big difference to have a small, bus-powered unit like the 2i2 which can be plugged in to a laptop with no need for any other power source. I've used my 2i2 that way quite often. It's pretty small to bring, if I'm on a long trip, for example.

fyi, the pro 14 can be bus powered. And you can use a thunderbolt to firewire adapter.
