4th graders can get a free national park pass good through the end of the school year (August 31st, 2018). Admits all children under 16 and up to 3 adults for free. Also covers vehicle entrance fee. The sign up process is super simple and does not require any personal information.

https://www.everykidinapark.gov/

How it works
  • Show your pass to a ranger when you enter. If there is no ranger, leave it on the dashboard of your car.
  • If you visit a site that charges entrance fees per person— The pass admits all children under 16 and up to three adults for free.
  • If your group visits a site that charges vehicle entrance fees - The pass admits all children under 16 and all adults in up to one passenger vehicle. Commercial vehicles can't use a pass to get in.
  • If you arrive at a site on bicycle— The pass admits all children under 16 and up to three adults on bicycles.
  • The pass doesn't cover things like parking fees, camping, boats, and special tours. Also, some sites are managed by private operators. They may not honor the pass. Check with the site ahead of time to find out.
  • The pass doesn't cover fees for local, city, or state parks and recreation areas unless they say that they accept this pass.
  • Paper passes can be exchanged for plastic passes at certain sites.

Valid question considering they decided to host it at EVERYkidinapark.com

They have a paragraph about that on the site. They feels kids 9 to 11 years old are just at the point where they will be able to really absorb the learning. They feel if they offer this every year to all 4th graders every kid will get a chance to get in the park for free.

Awesome! I have a 4th grader! We usually drive from Texas to California to visit my inlaws and often stop to see places like the Grand Canyon. I've been wanting to see Bryce Canyon the next trip out in June and hope this pass will work for that.

Calling all families with a 4th grader. Your family is eligible for a Free 1-Year National Parks Pass that is valid through August 31st, 2018. This pass grants you access to national parks, forests, and more — as often as you'd like. The 4th grader qualifies for the pass and everyone in the vehicle gets in free. https://everykidinapark.gov
