Yeah, I just bought it for $35 to replace the one I purchased 5 years ago of the same brand.

This newer model has significant improvement over the original I used - it appears to be quicker to open, the opening is wider, there are fewer gaps and edges for garbage gunk to be caught on, and the power switch is now on the rear of the lid instead of the inside lip, where it becomes covered in dust and trash goo.

A negative for me is that the new model is 3-4 inches shorter. Also, as with the original one, the metal is thin so if it's bumped hard it will dent, and show it. It's still not watertight, either, so a broken bag means cleaning the floor, not just hosing out the innards.

For $35, I was happy to replace mine, as it lasted well for 5 years...the motor just recently became less responsive and wouldn't open fully anymore.

This trash can is such a piece of junk. I received mine from Rakuten and it was defective. The lid would not go up and down but you could hear the motor struggling to do something. I contacted Rakuten for a replacement or refund and never received as much as an email, phone call, nothing back from them. Dont buy this junk. Rakuten is horrible. Bad product and bad seller! Stay Away!

It says it's powered by 4 x D batteries in the description.

That not being watertight sounds like deal breaker to me. How much effort to clean up?

Depends - how often do you break or puncture a trash bag that's holding liquid?

I would say maybe 3 times a year it happens here, most frequently with just a pinhole that drips some. I take the lid off, where all the powered components are, spray some simple green on the inside, and hose it out. THEN, I've learned to flip it over and clean out the underside of it (before I knew it wasn't watertight I neglected to do this, then drove myself nuts looking for the smell).

It's not bad, but I just went to look at it and there are still 'fins' on the underside that are a pain to clean when there a bag leak. Oh well, I'm sure they serve a structural purpose.

The one I bought earlier worked perfectly. It does not come with an adaptor so bought one via amazon. Hope I have not jinxed it. I looks very elegant. Placed another order today.

Looks like the one I got off ebay for 28 bucks. Works well but alot of people reported that their came dented. Mine had a little dent in the back. Its thin, cheap metal. If you want a heavy duty one like SimpleHuman then youre going to pay much more.

Is it possible you didn't turn it on? I was pissed for way too long at the lid making noise and opening when my assistance, but not working on its own... until i turned it on. Mad

Once I got over my own stupidity, i really like the trash can. It does open every time i walk by it, but the batteries are still rocking after 3 months.

These are really nice when you have your hands full, we've had one similar to this in our house for years now.
