I would not recommend this. Even a 8350k can this.
it's slightly faster but was about $20 more from b&h when it was in stock. Plus only the Z mobos are available and those are pricey.

it's not too bad if you're trying to build a PC right now.

You think its worth spending the $180+ tax to upgrade from my 6th Gen i3-6100? I'm using the MSI GeForce GTX 960.

I think that's a fairly good upgrade. You could sell your i3 and get some of your money back too. I have a i5 6600k and it's basically the same and it's super fast for gaming and everything I do. Do you have a z170 or z270 motherboard though? There's not much point of getting a K chip since you need a Z motherboard to overclock. If you don't you might want something like a i5-7500 instead.

This, though after just biting on a 1070 deal from the other day, it's starting to lag behind, still a great CPU though, I have mine OC'd to 4.4 with almost no temp increase. MB and CPU probably my next upgrade, I'm waiting for a good I7-7700k or I7-6700k + Z270 bundle to show up, hoping they decide to clear out some stock with the new gen starting to come out.

Only good if you have an existing z170/z270 board. If you are building fresh, go with the coffee lake series. I have a 8350k and I like it so far, just waiting on my 8700k to show up. So you may find a lot of coffee lake used on ebay when 8700k's finally start showing up Smilie

Me too... Damn it's old. Feels like the time from 2500 to the new 8000s was a blink of an eye.
