Paypal Digital Gift code hacked, what to do now?

I purchased about $700 Staple e-gfit card from Paypal Digital Gift in 2016, but now recently when I tried to use them I noticed that all of them have zero balance. I contacted Paypal and was told that these purchases are e-gift cards and thus not eligible for purchase protection.

What options do I have now?

The paypal rep was probably new. Direct them to

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/pa...ast-month/

Ots been a long time so new reps wont know what the heck happened and give you some hard bs stance. Escalate and even direct message paypal digital gifts and warm your contacting the bbb.

Its so damn stupid at the end of the day. Your giftcard was a email link to a webpage ANYONE could see with the right url. Someone figured this out and had a webcrawler get all the codes and the rest is everyone lost thier gc balances in fraud.

Thanks for the info. I tried to "contact PPDG support" as mentioned in that article, but it took me to a general Paypal contact page, and I cannot find which option to be used for my issue. Apparently, the rep I contacted via "Dispute Payment" did not help at all, just keep telling me some generic information. I am confused, is PPDG also part of Paypal?

There was a whole thread about this from last year.
https://slickdeals.net/f/9095623-psa-check-your-balance-for-paypal-digital-gifts-bought-from-ebay-your-digital-gift-cards-might-have-been-comprimised-and-have-an-0-balance

This was such a headache getting my money back. Had to contact eBay, then PPDG. Then contact them again and again. Emails. Phone calls. Then had to deal with rude customer service and managers telling me I'm never getting the cards refunded, basically accusing me of using the gift cards when they wouldn't admit they are the ones that got hacked. I eventually got them refunded at the end of last year/beginning of 2017 and spent the balance soon after. Never again PPDG.

I just went through this for about $50 in GC from last year about 5mins ago.

I called 1-888-221-1161 and before I even started, I asked rep if they could help with GCs that were zeroed out due to hack at Paypal GC last year. Then, ask if they are aware of the hack. If not, just ask for supervisor right away.

Luckily, I got someone who knew immediately and asked for purchase dates of paypal account and amounts. After verifying identity, she actually credited a few back straight to Paypal without breaking down Ebay Bucks/Credit Card/Promo splits.

But on the 1st transaction, she split the transaction back as originally paid. Part Ebay Bucks and part Amex. She then told me to call 1-866-540-3229 with the Ebay Voucher code that appears in your PayPal message center and have them activate the voucher.

All told took 40 mins (15mins to get a rep and 25mins for rep to look thru transactions and make refunds. Quite painless and worked out. Just be polite the whole way.... Hope this helps.

Update: getting the Ebay bucks re-activated was painful. Rep in the Philipines kept saying it was invalid, even after I explained it need to be activated to be valid and that he needs to do that somehow in their system.

After about 20 clueless mins, they conference called me back with Paypal and Paypal simply credited that back to my Paypal as a courtesy too. But everything worked out for the better since $45 was a credit back to Paypal which I immediately transferred to the bank and the remaining $5 went back to Amex.

Means I was able to keep all the promos and original amounts and convert promos and back back to cash.

Same happened to me on ebay bucks. it was such a small amount the paypal person just credited it. seems to me if ebay bucks are used it is not same as cash and basically a discount on the payment even though thats not how its advertised or appears to be used. ebay and paypal admit this about the ebay bucks but can't give a 'refund' for a 'discount' even if it shows as being a form of payment.

I am quite frankly fed up with ebay. You can't even list via the mobile app on android and see the amount they will charge you in fee's. You get a button to list and above it you see 'by clicking continue you agree to all listing fees'. Yeah I will never agree to fee's I can't see, ebay can go to hell imo.
