I'm getting conflicting info. Amazon says it's an lcd. Other sources say it's dlp. 1400 lumins seems a little on the low side. But I'm no expert. It also seems LG released this model just earlier this year.

It is a DLP projector with an LED light source.

The correct answer is that it is an DLP projector, which uses LED light sources. Caling it an LED projector is like calling a TV with LED backlighting an LED TV... it's not.

The imaging device is what is referred to when calling a projector or TV by some "short name"... the backlight or light source does not define the imaging process.

The only "true" LED TV is the Organic LED... OLED... in which case microscopic Red/Green/Blue LED's actually create the pixels that you view.

In the case of these LG projectors, they are all DLP image devices that reflect whatever light source is used... in the PF1500 and PF1000 series, it's 3 large Red Green and Blue LEDs. In the case of the new HF80JA, the light source is Blue Laser LEDs... which makes it even more confusing, since the solid-state Lasers are a member of the LED family.

The high power Blue Laser light is at times converted to Green via a phosphor color wheel, red light is provided by a lower power Red laser. Eventually they will have Green lasers that will last long enough, simplifying this process.

Plus projector biggest downfall is that it require a very dark room. Forget trying to use this during the daytime.

Plenty of projectors work just fine during the day with shades open including this one, placement is important and it will likely be washed out and you'll definitely lose blacks....but if those thing were important you'd be looking at OLED or have a dedicated room.
Not this one though. With less than 1000 actual lumens.

Agree. I tried using one during the day in living room with some daylight from window and it was mediocre. I decided to impress father in law and hook one up to amazon fire tv outside in a cover patio and i couldn't even see the menu to select what I wanted. It was terrible and everyone was very disappointed. Needless to say I think projector are only good in bedroom or pitch dark room.

I have a Benq HT2050 set up in my living room, I use it as my tv. I have never had any issues with being able to see it clearly and I don't have blackout curtains, just regular blinds that still let a decent amount of light in. It absolutely looks better at night, but I can still see it perfectly fine during the day.

The Benq does have more lumens than this projector though. I got the ht2050 refurbished for about $100 less than this and have never regretted it or wanted to go back to a tv.
