Also, Acer's product page says the RAM is DDR3L, and it also has a backlit keyboard. Looks like a great budget laptop that leaves no box unchecked, not sure what the thumbs downs are for.

I have seen that and confirmed that the Acer product page information is incorrect. Why, because Kaby Lake Refresh does not support DDR3L; it is either DDR4L or LPDDR3.

And yes, I am also not sure why the TD? But SD is like this now a days; a lot of idiots, who just TD without understanding a single thing about computer and that actually made other folks miss the deal since it does show up in first couple of pages.

Mostly people who bought a laptop or two in their life time and think they know everything.
Either they had bad experience from a brand and felt entitled to TD every single deal of the same brand, or worse, they had good experience from a brand and feel the need to TD everyone else.

The Asus one is much portable, slim and better looking. Also that has only Integrated graphics. So gaming and graphic intensive works are no go. This one, on the other hand, has bigger footprint, does not look as good as the Asus one. But it provides exact same hardware + MX150 dedicated GPU, which will give you medium gaming performance at 1080P and better for Graphics intensive works. Also it has 256GB SSD, which will give you faster boot and overall snappy experience.
So, depends upon which feature you need most from your laptop. If you want a powerful laptop for work and moderate gaming and does not care much about the extra weight, Acer one is a better solution.

This looks like a decent price for the specs (4 core, 8 threads, 1080p IPS + SSD,) but according to the Acer website, $599.99 is the normal price for this particular model. Is full retail slick?

along with the 2lbs extra weight the Acer comes w/ dvd player. Acer also has backlit keyboard which is on my must list, along w/ SSD (extra cost for the Asus). Does seem like retail price which is nice https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/con....GTSAA.005

If anyone has this can the comment on the battery life? For some reason the asus 8th gen

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0762S8P...35ac300INT

Has a 4100mAH battery and gets 5ish hours but this one with a 2600mAH gets 9 hours per reviews.

Also I don't see a mention of a backlit keyboard. If anyone can confirm that would be good. I dont care for the backlight but I am trying to get more pros for this over the vivobook.

Yes, it has backlit. I'm trying to decide whether to order now or wait a week to see if it goes on sale. See the Nov 10 review for this machine

A great package at a good price!

CPU comparable to a i7-7500 and the GPU is comparable with a GTX 960M, a combo even found used will be around $600.

The only thing missing is a USB 3.1 generation 2 slot (double the speed of gen 1), but I guess I'm asking for too much at this price point.
